HISTORY OF GOVERNMENT JUBILEE INTER COLLEGE, GORAKHPUR
The history of Jubilee Inter College has been very glorious. It has been a center of attraction for education for the students of Uttar Pradesh as well as other states which inculcates discipline, dedication, determination and devotion in students along with formal education. This institution was established in 1875 A.D. as the Oriented District School in the premises of present Miya Sahib Islamic Inter College. In 1887 A.D. this institution was reconstructed as Municipal High School and its management went into the hands of the Municipal Board. In the same year, the school was named “JUBILEE HIGH SCHOOL” on the golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria’s reign. Due to the ever increasing fame and progress of the institution, it got the status of the state level institution in 1907.
The construction of present building (main building, English block, Merit advance hostel) was completed in 1917 and classes started. In August 1962, the institution was upgraded to intermediate level and it got the current name, ‘GOVERNMENT JUBILEE INTER COLLEGE’. This institution started getting more recognition from 1976-77.
Mr. Rajendra Nath Sen, Indra Dutt Upadhaya, Brij Bhusan Prasad and Mr. Aghor Nath Chatterjee from 1899-1917, and others since then decorated the post of principal of this institution. They created the solid foundation and environments of studies, sports discipline, teacher-student relationships, hard work and mutual goodwill with their administrative ability. It is proud to be stated that the students have enhanced the dignity of the institution by achieving remarkable records in academics as well as in extra curriculum activities such as cultural, artistic, sports, drama, debates, and competitions at district, divisional and state level. Due to its perpetual prestige, it has kept its value intact even today. With changing circumstance, English medium classes (VI to XII) were also started during the tenure of the principal Dr. O.P. Rai since 2005. This institution has produced innumerable eminent doctors, engineers, administrators, public servants and many more socially useful citizens.
Along with all round performances of the students, it aims the holistic development in education through smart classes, well-equipped science and computer labs, rich library, large sports ground. I.T. classes give a conductive environment for students to study. Awareness programs are regularly conducted for environmental conservation, sustainable development, sports activities, inter school competitions, debate, quiz, poster-making, slogan-making, drawing and painting which makes learning more joyful and entertaining.
The incumbent principal Mr. Samar Bahadur Singh is determined to take the Government Jubilee Inter College towards a new height of knowledge. He is very watchful to every small and big issue in the college. Under his successful guidance, the entire staff leading towards a high flight of future. The website of the college has been successfully modified under his vigilance. With the spirit of ‘Holistic Development of the College’ the visionary principal along with dedicated staff is taking the college on the path of success. In his incomparable cooperation, the college is once again preparing to touch the pinnacle of success with new energy and enthusiasm.
